| Cycle and walk paths - The linking path of the three temples The linking path of the three temples is a thematic path that connects three Mary’s temples: Sveta Gora (Saint Mount) in the Municipality of Nova Gorica and Marijino Celje (Maria Zell) in the Municipality of Kanal ob Soči – both of them are situated on the Slovenian side, and Stara Gora (Castelmonete) on the Italian side. All these three temples are a well-known and popular place of pilgrimage. All the temples can be visited in one day, either by bus or by car, but you can also go there with a mountain bike or in the most typical way of pilgrimage, on foot. It takes two days to pass through the last two paths, but the pleasure that they offer is certainly greater. 2. Cycling road between the temples The cycling road is composed of lateral macadam roads, partly also of minor asphalt roads with less traffic. At the junction Sveta Gora–Preški vrh–Zagora–Plave, drive down in the Soča Valley until the village of Plave (at 90 m above sea level). This is an 11.2 km-long road. Starting from Plave, take the road leading through Vrtače to the Kanalski Kolovrat Slope (at 725 m above sea level), from where you reach the village of Lig with the Marijino Celje temple. This is a 14.7 km-long road with a 7.9 km-long macadam road between Zamedveje and the ridged road. Once reached in Lig, take the above-mentioned road up to the frontier of Britof and proceed along the River Idrija towards the hamlet of Košoni and towards Stara Gora. 3. Footpath between the temples If you opt for the footpath between the temples, you can choose two different paths. Going from Lig to Stara Gora, the road is always the same as mentioned above. That is why only the road that leads up to the village of Lig and to the Marijino Celje Temple is going to be described. From Sveta Gora go down up to the Preški vrh Peak, and proceed in the direction of the hamlet of Baske, where you can either choose to take the road towards Deskle or the longer one towards Kanal. |
